We’ve had the privilege of sampling lots and lots of exciting exotic strains here in DC recently thanks to its recent appearance on a variety of gift menus all over the city. Appearances aside, the strain has reached superstar status thanks to its extremely powerful body high and soothing, mellow mental effects. This heavy-handed indica-dominant hybrid is the perfect choice for anyone who needs a little rest, relaxation, and relief. As one of the more exotic strains we’ve covered lately, we think you’ll love this strain for its cherry cookie scent alone until you get the chance to try it. Here’s everything you need to know about the Animal Cookies strain, including its lineage phenotypes, smell, taste, effects, medical uses, and cultivation best practices.
Animal Cookies: Background
Animal Cookies is a flavorful masterpiece of a strain by BC Bud Depot. It’s just one phenotype the breeder held back of the indica-dominant cross between Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. It was retained instead of the other phenotypes because this cut kept the tasty flavor profile of the Girl Scout Cookies. This Animal Cookies cut was also held back and cloned because it offers a higher yield and produces larger, more potent flowers than either of its parents. Animal Cookies is known for its tart and sweet cherry aroma and its sweet doughy flavor profile that can impress even the most serious terp-heads. This clone-only hybrid strain is extremely potent and has tested between 18-27% THC, making it a powerful full-body relaxation medicine for anyone who suffers from physical pain or insomnia.

Animal Cookies Cultivation
Cultivating the Animal Cookies strain used to be a bit of a bugger. Since it was a unique phenotype, it was initially pretty hard to come by. However, the strain has since been released and can be found in most cannabis-friendly states across the country. It is rated as moderately difficult to grow for a few different reasons. The first being that the colas grow in to be very dense, so the strain requires a lot of extra precautions regarding humidity levels in the flower room. Too high and she’s quite susceptible to powdery mildew and mold. Too little and she tends to struggle with the environment. Early topping and training is also necessary early on to encourage flower growth versus foliar growth.
Animal Cookies Appearance
Animal Cookies flowers are densely packed popcorn-shaped nugs. Many describe the flower’s unique coloration as more golden-hued and yellow than the typical green you picture when you think “cannabis.” The nugs are covered in a thick layer of frosty, silver-colored trichomes that make it difficult for the sandy orange and red pistils to make their way up and out in all directions. On the plant, the water leaves take on a dark forest green color, though it isn’t uncommon for them to turn purple when grown in colder temperatures.
Animal Cookies Scent, Flavor, and Effects
The pinnacles of the Animal Cookies strain are all centered around the flavors and effects, though the scent is pretty exciting too. Like other cookies strains, the smell of Aminal Cookies isn’t overwhelmingly sweet and creamy like the flavor profile. In fact, it takes on an odd sort of sweet and tart aroma that reminds you of sour cherries. Under all that, there is a distinctly dank, musty earth smell that gives the strain that typical marijuana kick.
As a member of the Cookies family, Animal Cookies takes on a bake sale-esque flavor of sweet cream and vanilla with rich nutty undertones. The smoke is pungent and earthy and will surely make you cough, so smaller hits are recommended if you really want to enjoy the full flavor profile. On the exhale you can detect hints of nuttiness and pastry crust before the strain mellows out and leaves you with a tart and fruity aftertaste. BC Bud Depot describes the flavor of the Animal Cookies strain as similar to cherry wink cookies, and we’d have to wholeheartedly agree.
The effects of the Animal Cookies strain are more indica leaning, though they start on hard and fast in standard cerebral fashion. The first impression is a rush to the head that leaves you feeling mellow, unfocused, happy, and euphoric. As the effects continue to creep up on you, you may experience a pleasant giggly haze before a super soothing and extremely relaxing body high takes over you, soothing each individual muscle group and leaving you feeling calm, sedated, and sleepy. The strain is a great choice for nighttime relaxation as it fades way into a deeply relaxing and long-lasting sleep.

Medical Uses of Animal Cookies
Between these indica-dominant effects and some seriously high levels of THC ranging from 18-27% THC, the Animal Cookies strain is no joke when it comes to powerful medicinal value and deep-seated relief from a variety of ills and ailments. Its euphoric mental effects are a great way to stop the symptoms of chronic stress and anxiety in their tracks, and it’s indica-dominant effects make it helpful against anxiety. However, the strain is more potent for physical ills, including appetite loss, chronic pain, muscle spasms, headaches, and nausea. All in all, its a great choice for all-day relief, and an extra burst of sedative, insomnia-busting medicine at nighttime.
Animal Cookies Review
You really can’t go wrong with a cut of weed that smells just like cherry winks, can you? Animal Cookies is another one of those strains that are immediately impressive upon first glance and first impressions. Speaking of which, our first official interaction with the strain was that the smell was incredible. We weren’t disappointed in the slightest with the strain’s contrasting appearance, either. That thick blanket of trichomes layered over a gorgeous, light sagey green bud contrasts so nicely with the sandy pistils that it deserves an additional mention. Plus the flavors and potency levels are to die for. Animal Cookies gave us a great mix of euphoric mental effects and deeply soothing physical effects and created such a long-lasting high that we were impressed. If we had to give it a star rating, we’d have to go with a 4.9. While the strain scores perfect marks in the scent, flavor, and effects categories, it loses a few in its difficulty in cultivating. All in all, we love it and we think you will too. The next time you see it available on the menu at your favorite smoke shop, be sure to give it a try.
