There is a myth perpetuated in the marijuana industry, one which is reflected in our laws: cannabis is only for serious ailments, such as epilepsy, and also for recreation.
We believe all plants have a holistic effect that goes beyond just remedy or recreation. In the cannabis plant, we’ve found through research and medical studies that one of the wellness particles in the cannabis plant is CBD, or cannabidiol.
As all supplements, the amount of CBD and its specific effects for an individual may vary. Research has shown that CBD effects pain relief, is a natural anti-inflammatory, has anti-anxiety properties, is a neuro-protectant and an anti-oxidant.
CBD has pain relief properties that beat those of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol. For people who suffer from arthritis, CBD has been seen to be a lifesaver, and is a picking up steam as a complete solution to symptoms of pain.
As a neuroprotective, CBD “helps reduce damage to the brain and nervous system and encourages the growth and development of new neurons.” CBD is able to positively impact recovery in situations such as post-stroke rehabilitation and spinal cord injuries. It can limit and prevent ALS, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s.
For anxiety, CBD has shown promising results in studies directed towards anxiety. In a 2010 study, cannabidiol reduced symptoms of social anxiety disorder in patients. The results were tremendous, in that CBD did not just make participants feel better, “but also changed the way their brains responded to anxiety.”
A case study in 2016 analyzed the effect of cannabidiol on a child with a history of trauma, and thus PTSD. The study concluded that the cannabidiol reduced anxiety, and solved existing sleeping issues.
Cannabis is a natural wellness alternative. Not just a remedy, not just recreation.
